2 balls 4 ply worsted cotton such as Handicrafter

+ small amount for trim

4:50 mm hook


INSTRUCTIONS

Chain 34, leaving a long starting tail for sewing later.

Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, [skip 1, 2 dc in next ch] across, ch 3 turn [16 - 2dc groups]

Row 2: 2 dc in space between dc groups of prev row across, dc in top of turning ch, ch 3,turn

Row3: 1 dc in first sp, 2 dc in next sp, across, ch3 turn

Rows 4-13: repeat rows 2 and 3, fasten off

You should have a rectangle approx 7 x 10 in

Heel: fold in half crosswise and using long starting tail, sew heel to within 1 1/2 in of bottom, weave yarn around the circle and pull up tightly, draw yarn to inside, secure and fasten off.

Work toe end in rounds as follows:

Row 1: join yarn in middle st of row 13, ch2, hdc in first 7 st, hdc 2 tog, hdc in next 13st [joining top of foot] hdc 2 tog, hdc in last 7, join in top of beg ch2 [30 st]

Row2: ch2, hdc around, join

Row3: ch2, hdc in 6 st, hdc2 tog, hdc in 13 st, hdc 2 tog, hdc in last 6 st, join [28 st]

Row4: ch2, hdc around, join

Row5: ch2, hdc in 5 st, hdc 2 tog, hdc in 13 st, hdc 2 tog, hdc in last 5 st, join [26 st]

Row 6: ch2, hdc around, join

Row 7: ch2, hdc in 4 st, hdc 2 tog, hdc in 13 st, hdc 2 tog, hdc in last 4 st, join [24 st]

Row 8 - 9: ch2, hdc around, join [24 st]

row 10: ch2, hdc 2 tog around [12 st]

flatten toe and work 5 sl st to close, draw yarn to inside, secure and fasten off.

Trim:

Row 1: starting at heel end, join CC, ch2, hdc in sm sp, 2 hdc in each sp to toe end. [13 - 2hdc groups]
skip middle sp and work same along other side, join in top of first ch2 [26 - 2hdc groups]

Row 2: ch2, 2 hdc in ea sp between hdc groups of prev row, skip middle st, hdc in sm sp as first ch2 [25 hdc groups] join and fasten off

Sew in all ends. Make a drawstring of 100 ch and weave through first trim row. tie in front in a bow.

NOTE: These are not meant to be worn as slippers, the lacy st makes it impractical. They are designed to keep your feet toasty warm in bed yet allow for sufficient air circulation. Make them in pretty pastels for your grandma or zany colours just for fun!
