Starburst Washcloth

Materials:

(1) 1 ½ - 2 oz ball of Bernat Handicrafter cotton

5.50 mm hook (If you have a loose tension or want a denser motif use a 5 mm hook)

Size: Approx. 7 inches in dia. depending in tension

Special stitches used:

DCFP: Double Crochet Front Post - YOH, insert hook horizontally from right to left under the front of the

next stitch, draw up a loop. (YOH and draw through 2 loops on the hook) twice.

DCBP: Double Crochet Back Post - YOH, insert hook horizontally from right to left under the back of the

next stitch, draw up a loop. (YOH and draw through 2 loops on the hook) twice.

Note: Ch 3 at beginning of each rnd counts as 1 DC

* This pattern can also be used as a hot pad, or sew 2 together to make a pot holder.

Motif:

Ch 5. Join with SS to form ring.

RND 1: Ch 1. 1 ss and sc in 1st Ch. 1 ss and sc in each Ch to end of Rnd. SS into first st.

RND 2: Ch 3. *Yoh. Working over 1st rnd, draw up a loop to measure ¾ inch (2cm). Complete the dc as usual.* Repeat from * to * 18 times. Ss to top of ch 3 (20 dc in rnd)

RND 3: Draw loop longer then usual. Drop loop from hook, from front of work insert hook from right to left under the post of the ch 3 of the previous rnd, draw dropped loop through. Ch 3. Dc in the top of the ch 3 of previous rnd. *Dcfp in next dc, dc in the same dc* 19 times. Ss in top of ch 3. (40 dc in rnd)

RND 4: Draw loop longer then usual. Drop loop from hook, from front of work insert hook from right to left under the post of the ch 3 of the previous rnd, draw dropped loop through. Ch 3. Dc in the top of the ch 3 of previous rnd and next dc. *Dcfp in dcfp. dc in next 2 dc* 19 times. Ss in top of ch 3. (60 dc in rnd)

RND 5: Draw loop longer then usual. Drop loop from hook, from front of work insert hook from right to left under the post of the ch 3 of the previous rnd, draw dropped loop through. Ch 3. Dcbp in next 2 dc. *Dcfp in dcfp. dcbp in next 2 dc.* 19 times. Ss in top of ch 3. (90 dc in rnd)

RND 6: Draw loop longer then usual. Drop loop from hook, from front of work insert hook from right to left under the post of the ch 3 of the previous rnd, draw dropped loop through. Ch 3. skip 1 dc, 3 dc in the next dc, skip one dc. *Dcfp in dcfp. Skip 1 dc, 3 dc in next dc, skip 1 dc.* 19 times. Ss in top of ch 3.

RND 7: Draw loop longer then usual. Drop loop from hook, from front of work insert hook from right to left under the post of the ch 1 (first sc). Sc in next dc, ch 1, sc in next dc. *Insert hook from front of work through the top of the next two dc and draw loop through, finish sc. Sc in next dc, ch 1, sc in next dc.* 19 times. Ss in top of ch 3. Fasten off.

Sew in end and finger press it smooth.
